Phikolomzi Bongweni

Phikolomzi known by many of the players as PK has a lot of experience both playing and coaching soccer in his life time. PK has been playing soccer for 8 years between multiple different teams. Three teams that he enjoyed the most were the Local Football Association League Valencia Football Club, the First National Rangers, and the Y2K College Football Club. On top of playing for a variety of leagues PK also is currently coaching for Valencia Football Club under 16 Makhaza Local Football Association league around Khayelitsha.

PK has loved soccer for as long as he can remember because of the physical and social benefits that come from the sport. Through soccer he believes he can make a positive change in the community and give the girls a chance to grow and possible play at the professional level. In order to learn how to play soccer one must understand how to work with a team while also having enough individual confidence to play on the field. These are skills that Ikasi feels are valuable to teach and PK thinks girls should learn and practice in their youth. Phikolomzi decided to join the Ikasi team because he truly believes in the mission that they are trying to achieve. He sees an obvious opportunity to develop the soccer skills within the young women which would give them a chance for one of them to be recruited for the national team. For those who do not wish to play professionally, he hopes the other coaches and himself can provide the young girls with enough confidence and skills to have a brighter future filled with more opportunity than the generations before ever had.
