Anele Mathwasa

Anele began playing soccer at a very young age. In terms of skill, he never mastered all of the rules of soccer, he mainly learned for fun in the community with other children. That being said, his favorite position on the field was midfield, he loved having the ability to aid every other player to score points. Anele never believed himself to be the best player but rather the best teammate because of his constant support and encouragement. Once he got a little older, he discovered that he had a large passion for music. This passion led him to quitting soccer and becoming a DJ for a few years. Although he still loves music, Anele decided to join the IKasi team because of the impact that he could have on the youth in the community. Like many of the other coaches he thinks that soccer can give these girls a chance at a better future that older generations never had.

He loves soccer because it teaches individuals how important it is to work as a team. You also must have the confidence and mindset to push yourself to be better and always strive for more, which is so important to instill in our youth today. One day Anele would love to get his coaching certification so he can provide even more feedback and training for the girls each week. In terms of coaching he is very supportive and understanding towards all of the girls and hopes to keep expanding the program to more schools.

Anele won his 1st title on the 5th of December 2019 with his team Lwandle Primary School and has received a 4 days basic training by the Western Cape government and The Learning Trust in February 2020.
